When an Author Meets Her Character: My Interview on Coffee With Characters

As an author, I've been fortunate to participate in some incredible interviews, but my conversation on Coffee With Characters was unlike anything I've experienced before. Instead of simply interviewing me about my book, the host did something truly creative. She interviewed both me, Geri Cohen Biddy, and my main character, Muse.

It was fascinating to step into two different roles during one conversation. First, I had the opportunity to share my journey as an independent author, discussing the inspiration behind Muse: Brown Skin – A Dangerous Kind of Love, the writing process, and what it has taken to build my career one reader at a time.

Then came the fun part.

The host invited Muse to the table.

Answering questions as Muse allowed readers to experience her voice beyond the pages of the book. Instead of reading about her emotions, heartbreak, resilience, and growth, viewers got to hear directly from the woman at the center of the story. It was almost as if Muse stepped out of the book and into real life.

As a writer, creating a character is one thing. Bringing that character to life in an interview is something entirely different. It challenged me creatively while reminding me just how deeply I know the woman whose story I chose to tell.

Throughout the interview, we discussed the themes that make Muse resonate with so many readers: love, vulnerability, self-worth, healing, and the difficult lessons that often come from relationships that don't end the way we hoped they would.

We also talked about my journey as an independent author. Building this career has required wearing every hat imaginable, from writer and publisher to marketer, content creator, and entrepreneur. Every milestone has been earned through consistency, faith, and a belief that our stories deserve to be heard.

What I appreciated most about Coffee With Characters was its unique format. Instead of only talking about the book, the interview allowed readers to connect with both the creator and the creation. It gave viewers a deeper understanding of how personal Muse is while also allowing the character to stand on her own.

A heartfelt thank you to the host for such an imaginative and engaging interview. It was an experience I'll never forget and one that gave readers a completely different way to connect with my work.
